a key player in the history of art at
the beginning of the 20th century…
His work was influential to Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.
Yet there's never been an exhibition exclusively of his portraiture - until now!
This autumn in London
The National Gallery opens a unique exhibition to show how the artist put his own twist on the traditional genre of painting as he walked away from impressionism and dove into the murky seas of symbolism. Spanning his early years as an artist through to his later years spent in French Polynesia, the exhibition shows how Gauguin revolutionised the portrait. Gauguin was able to make portraits that expressed meaning beyond their personalities!
